Values and Value Systems of University Teachers and Students.

    The aim of this study was to investigate the value systems, political values, and political attitudes of the university teachers and their students. The research objectives included:
1. study the Terminal and Instrumental Value Systems of the university teachers, the student leaders, and the first - year students.
2. study the conflicting values and according values of the value systems of the samples.
3. study the value systems among the different background students.
4. study the political values and political attitudes of the university teachers and the students.

Research Procedure
(1) Samples were drawn from eleven Faculty Boards, eleven Student Faculty Clubs, and some first year students from eleven different faculties; consisting of 108 university teachers, 135 student leaders, and 157 first - year students; making a total samples of 400. Data collection was accomplished by September 1982.
(2) Tools used in this study were value survey instrument, attitude scale and questionnaire.
(3) Median Test, Analysis of Variance, Newmen - Keuls, Percentage and Content analysis were used to analyze the data.

Research Finding:
(1) Regarding the value systems of the university teachers, the Personal values and Moral values were ranked as the higher - important values. Those values included "Family happiness, security", "Success in life", and "Self - esteem" for the first - three piority of Terminal values; and "Responsible", "Self - reliant, independent", and "Honesty" for the first - three piority of Instrumental values.
According to the value systems of the student leaders, the Social values and Competence values were ranked as the higher - important values. Those values included "A world at peace", "National security" and "Success in life" for the first - three piority of Terminal Values; and "Self - reliant, independent ","Responsible", and "Honesty" for the first - three piority of Instrumental values.
In addition, the value systems of the first - year students was almost the same as the value systems of the university teachers, the Personal values and Moral values were ranked as the higher - important values. Those values included "Success in life", "Family happiness, security", and "National security" for the first - three piority of Terminal values; and "Self - reliant, independent", "Grateful, obligated", and "Responsible" for the first - three piority of Instrumental values.
The result of the study was found in accordance with the research hypothesis.
(2) The values that the university teachers perceived more important that the students did were "A comfortable life", "Wisdom,knowledge", and "Family happiness, security". The values that the students perceived more important that the university teachers did were "Freedom, independent" and "A world at peace", In addition, there were other conflict of values between the university teachers and the students, howerver they were not the higher - important values.
(3) Only eight out of forty - three values were different significautly on the value systems of male students and female students, and found that the students whose fathers were the goverment officials perceived more important to "Grateful, obligated" than the others groups. However, no values were found significantly different among the students from different regions.
(4) The university teachers perceived less important than the students in political values, as the student leaders perceived most important in political values. In addition, the three groups of samples yeilded the same direction in political attitudes, but showed some different intensity of attitudes. Only one exception was that the university teachers were in favour of law and enforcement as the student were not. The students tended to seek for freedom and independent. The research result yeilded the research hypothesis.
