Abstract: The purpose of this study was to compare research knowledge and needs of teachers in the Educational Region 9 for training on classroom research in order to propose an appropriate model of training on classroom research. A sample consisted of 1,408 of elementary and expanded opportunity school teachers and 1,444 of secondary school teachers with a total of 2,852. The instrument was a survey of teachers’ research knowledge and needs for training on classroom research. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively with an emphasis on quantitative approach. The data were analyzed in terms of frequency, means and standard deviations. T-test, Kruskal-Wallis test and Dunnette T3 were also used to test the significant differences between means.
The results indicated that all school teachers regardless of types of school, provinces and positions accepted and perceived that conducting research was difficult, important, necessary and useful to perform at a high level. There were significant differences at the .05 level between means of usefulness, necessity and importance related to types and positions of school teachers. It was also found that the secondary school teachers perceived the highest means of usefulness, necessity and importance of conducting research. All types of school teachers in different provinces accepted that conducting research was difficult to perform. According to sex, female teachers perceived that conducting research was more important and difficult than that of male teachers at the .05 level. It was interesting to find that inexperienced research teachers perceived higher means of usefulness and difficulty of conducting research than that of experienced teachers at the .05 level.
According to the research knowledge, a level of teachers’ knowledge was at a medium level ( = 2.67, SD = 1.13) but inclined to a low level. It was also found that a level of teachers’ needs for training on classroom research was at a high level ( = 4.08, SD = 0.94)
For a model of training on classroom research, most teachers wanted three intervals of workshop on training: before, during and after conducting research. Each interval should consist of 3 days. A training workshop should be held during weekdays of school vacations.
