งานวิจัย : Environmental Education in Secondary Schools in the Northeast of Thailand

   Abstract: An investigation into environmental education in the lower secondary school in the Northeast of Thailand was conducted using a semi-structured interview. The interviewees were students, teachers and principals from several secondary schools. The opinion and perception of students, teachers and principals on environmental education content, teaching strategies and behavior as well as general information about environmental education in school were described in a narrative form. The results showed that contents used in teaching and learning were base on curriculum textbooks. The environmental education issues were integrated in various subjects in the secondary school curriculum. Teachers tent to treat the students as passive learners and some teachers experienced difficulties in teaching environment awareness to students. Most students demonstrated sound environmental practices when they were in school areas but there was less the case out side the school. The main constraints on environmental education in the secondary school were the level of funding and difficulties in conducting collaborative work. It is suggested that some ideas from Buddhist teachings could be implemented and integrated into the teaching of environmental education.
