The Effect of multimedia Development Based on comstructivism in the Area of Life for sixth-grade Learners.

   ABSTRACT

This study aimed to examine the effect of using multimedia developed based on Constructivism. The purposes of this study were 1) to construct a multimedia developed based on Constructivism 2) to study the learners’learning achievement, 3) to examine the learners’ mental models while they were learning from multimedia 4) to explore the learners’ opinions towards the multimedia developed based on Constractivism in the Area of Life Experiences on the Topic of “Universe and space” for sixth-grade learners.
The sample consisted of 54 sixth-grade learners in Sanambin school, Khon Kaen province during the second semester of the 2002 academic year. The cluster Random Sampling was employed in this study. The instruments used in the study included 1) a multimedia developed based on Constructivism by the researcher. 2) 20 items of four choice achievement test on the Area of life experiences on the topic of “Universe and space” which had reliability .73 3) the questionnaire used to collect learners’ opinions towards the multimedia developed based on Constructivism 4) the interview questionnaire of the learners’ mental models that they constructed while they were learning from multimedia developed based on Constructivism. One group Pretest-Posttest Design was employed in the study.
The results revealed that :
1) The learning achievement revealed high after study. The comparison of pretest/posttest score by the t-test showed that there were significantly different at the level of 0.05.
2) There were 4 different patterns of the learners’ mental models that they constructed for understanding the learning content in multimedia developed based on Constructivism. It was found that when the learners encounter the problem, which they cannot solve, the first and the second group will ask for suggestion from coach until they can solve the problem. But when the solution still cannot found, they access to the Data Bank, to analyze, discuss, solve and answer the question. The third group did the same as the first one and ask the experts who work as scaffolding. The fourth group did the same and also ask the expert.
3) The learners’ opinions toward learning from multimedia were found that they were satisfied with the learning activities. Furthermore, they thought that learning from multimedia result in self-regulation in their learning, encourage them in participation in problem solving process especially, in the authentic le
