   Abstract: This research was based on the idea of action research that was composed of four main steps; planning, acting, observing, and reflecting (Kemmis and McTaggart 1992). The aim of this research was to apply action research to training in classroom research skills for student teachers. The participants were twenty supervisors and sixty student teachers in the Secondary Education Department, Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen, Thailand. The research was conducted during March and October of 1999. The supervisors trained student teachers to conduct classroom research by using the ideas of action research. The findings showed that most teachers thought that the student teachers gained considerably in classroom research skills and knowledge. They were satisfied with the student classroom research tasks. Only two supervisors and few student teachers mentioned that the classroom research tasks interrupted the practical teaching process. Some student teachers suggested that the classroom research tasks were difficult, nevertheless they could achieve and complete them and were proud of the results. The important constraints that need to be solve in the next phase of research are related to the research knowledge installing process for student teachers, the research proposal presentation pattern, and the cooperation of supervisors and student teachers in reflective writing. Moreover, this research forced the staff of the Secondary Education Department to open the classroom research course for students to study before they take the Student Teaching Course.
