Abstract: This study was conducted to identify the causal model among latent variables: (1) cognitive, (2) affective, (3) constraints, (4) motivation, (5) and (6) participation for Japanese and Thai students. The study also investigated a group of best predictors in predicting participation in the environmental activities.
The sample consisted of 462 Japanese students from Aichi University of Education, Japan and 276 Thai students from Faculty of Education, Khon Kean University, Thailand. Data were analyzed by the method of path analysis and multiple regression analysis.
A group of best predictors in predicting participation in the environmental activities also indicated direct influence of variables. The results showed that there were four direct variables: affective (.245), cognitive (.187), motivation (.156), and benefits (.118) which indicated direct influence toward participation of Japanese students while there were three variables: Benefits (.275), motivation (.226), and cognitive (.213) which indicated direct influence for Thai students.
A causal model for Japanese students was fitted and accounted for 26.67 % of total variance but a causal model for Thai students was partly fitted and accounted for 26.78 % of total variance in participation in the environmental activities.
