ABSTRACT
The purposes of the present research were 1) to develop learning activities for the grade-2 Thai language learning substance based on concept mapping and 2) to enhance the students? writing achievement so that at least 80% of the students make an achievement score of 70% of the full marks or better.
The One-Group Posttest-Only Design was used with the target group which was consisted of 44 grade-2 students in the Demonstration School of the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University during the first semester of the 2005 academic year. The tools used for the study included 1) 9 lesson plans, 2) a learning activities observation form and 3) a writing-skill achievement test. Analysis of the data was done by means of arithmetic mean and standard deviation.
The findings:
1. Thirty-five or 80% of the students made a writing-skill achievement score of 70% of the full marks or better which passed the prescribed passing criterion.
2. The learning activities as organized emphasized writing practice. The students were asked to write stories of their own individually as well as in groups. They were also asked to make illustration books to accompany their books. The students worked together in their own groups to make suggestions and revision of their works before presenting them to class. Making class presentation had availed the students an opportunity to get immediate feedback about their works. The students were proud of their works and had become more confident about writing stories.
